NUJ welcomes no change to media reporting on child homicide victims

The union has welcomed the announcement by the Scottish government that it does not intend to introduce any legal changes to restrict the reporting of the identities of children who die as a result of homicide in Scotland.

The Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso) ruled that an article by Jeremy Clarkson published in The Sun last December was misogynistic and presented a serious breach of the Editors’ Code of Practice.

At a meeting of the NUJ Dublin Broadcasting branch, Dooley reaffirmed the union’s defence of public service broadcasting and urged government to protect employment and services in RTÉ.

NUJ submission to the parliamentary bill committee on the data protection bill

A key tenet of the union's ethical code is principle 1 which states that members shall: "at all times uphold and defends the principle of media freedom, the right of freedom of expression and the right of the public to be informed."

NUJ response to the Welsh government’s proposal for funding hyperlocals

The union agrees that some kind of state financial support will be necessary to enable hyperlocal news outlets to become sustainable businesses.
