The funeral of John Bailey, former NUJ president and member of honour, will take place on 13 July in Hartlepool, and will be open to friends and colleagues wishing to pay their respects.

The NUJ is in mourning for one of its most beloved figures, John Bailey, who died unexpectedly in London at the weekend.

A forgotten tragedy, pivotal in the development of trade unionism, was commemorated on the banks of the River Wear, with members of Sunderland, Shields and Hartlepool branch taking part. 

Two longstanding NUJ activists have been celebrated by their branch as they were presented with gold badges in recognition of their exceptional contribution to the union.
