Iran: One media worker killed and three arrested amid protest crackdown
The NUJ has joined the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in condemning the killing and attacks on media workers in Iran.
Amhad Abbasi, a 26-year-old graphic designer who worked for several domestic media outlets, was killed by security forces on 8 January during nationwide protests.
Three other media workers were arrested during the protests. On 9 January, photojournalist Artin Ghazanfari was arrested at his home and taken to an unknown location. Sports photojournalist Hamed Araghi was arrested the same day.
On 31 January, journalist Vida Rabani was arrested in Tehran and taken to an unknown location. Her arrest followed her signing of a statement alongside a number of political and civil activists in response to the widespread suppression of protests.
The IFJ has launched a confidential call to identify all media workers who have been threatened, arrested, summoned, imprisoned or killed as a result of the ongoing attacks on the Iranian population. Please contact IFJ Farsi: [email protected].
